About

Hi, my name is Zana.

I am currently a PhD Candidate in Political Sociology at Universiti Sains Malaysia, researching on social movement dynamics and leadership in the age of digital media and ultimately how this will all impact the future of democracy.

Two Kinds of Intelligence is a space for me to write at least 300 words a day about anything that caught my fancy — usually on books & articles I have read, documentaries I have watched, thoughts on everyday design, mental models and productivity, and some short observations during my doctoral research journey. The name of the blog — as most of you might know — alludes to Rumi’s eponymous poem, which is one of my most favourites.

I am a freelance writer / editor / researcher / strategist, specialising in (although not necessarily limited to) these areas:

  • Writing (on technology, design, user experience, and anything concerning the challenges navigating today’s digital spaces)
  • Copyediting and proofreading
  • Research
  • Social media strategy and management
  • Digital project management

In my research, I learned to critically analyse the impact and direction of technology and digital products towards no longer than just individual repercussions, but also more society-centered through the feminist framework of intersectionality — as our products would touch lives more so than just for the consumers with the purchasing power, but also those in the peripheral view of them.

As my doctoral journey is coming to a close, I am excited to apply my earned knowledge towards working with organisations who are committed to leverage technology to create products & processes to make the world a better place. If you are in pursuit of someone with an industry background in UX, writing, research, and a social sciences academic perspective to add more value as a UX researcher / UX writer / any writing or research position to your team — hire me!
